5 Tips for a Positive Morning Ritual

 

It's no secret that the most efficient, brilliant people (think President Obama, Tony Robbins, Anna Wintour) start their day with a positive morning ritual.

Why? Because it can mean the difference between a productive, enjoyable day or a frantic, stressful one. 

If the first thing you do in the morning is check your phone/emails and check over your 'To Do' list, then you are probably getting off on the wrong foot and could benefit from adopting a positive morning routine

Mornings are an important time of day to set your intentions for the entire day. Start the day feeling stress and anxious - and you are likely to continue feeling that way throughout the day. 

Renowned positivity psychologist, Dr Suzy Green, The Founder of the Positivity Institute. Dr Green has created a set of tips to help you make the most of your morning. 

1. Create your own bespoke morning ritual

Creating and committing to positive morning rituals can provide many physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual benefits. To create meaningful change, consider your motivation for implementing a ritual - whether it is wellbeing, fitness, success or something else.

Choose something you are willing to do in the morning (i.e. make it realistic) and stick to your ambitions. If you're a morning person, schedule in time for exercise. If you're late to rise, simply aim to prepare a healthy breakfast every morning. 

2. Make time every morning for your ritual

Whether you have a brief 15 minutes or a golden hour, set aside some time every morning for your ritual. With only a couple of minutes you can create a healthy (green) smoothie/juice, but with more time you can practice yoga, tai chi, or take a walk outside.

Do not check your phone or emails during this time. Allow yourself solo time before throwing yourself into work. Also, we suggest you literally send yourself a calender invite so that you know not to make appointments during your morning ritual. 

3. Eat a good breakfast

Eat a wholesome, nutritious breakfast to fuel your body. When you’ve eaten properly in the morning, you'll be more efficient in just about everything you do. It will also help prevent a mid-morning slump and keep you feeling fuller for longer.

4. Be prepared

Make your mornings easier by preparing your clothing, gym kit, and to-do list before you go to bed. This will allow you to remove any minor decision-making and instead focus on setting a positive mindset for the day.

Spend 10-minutes (if that!) getting your gear sorted for the next day. Soak your oats or chia seeds, lay out your clothes and make sure your bag is packed.

5. Give yourself a morning heart-starter

Complete your positive morning ritual by enjoying your favourite Nespresso Grand Cru coffee. Most of us already enjoy a morning brew, but taking five minutes to treat ourselves sets us up for the perfect day.

Research shows that drinking a cup of Jo per day is perfectly healthy. In fact, people who drink some caffiene tend to be healthier and live longer!
