Chocolate Banana Bread

Chocolate Banana Bread Recipe

You should know up front that I can’t bake very well. It’s always been too precise for me – and I’m quite impatient, particularly when chocolate is involved.

But even I could make this recipe easily – and it came out perfect.

My wonderful helper Melissa from @eaton_balanced helped me get this recipe right. She is great at making dessert (specially for people with allergies) so be sure to check her out.

Adding Greek yoghurt to the recipe means it’s moist and creamy (without adding coconut oil).

The probiotics won’t survive the heat of the oven though, this recipe is still high in fibre, which is great for your gut health.

If you don’t like the chocolate chips, you can add nuts, raisins or seeds instead.

I didn’t get fancy chocolate chips. Just the normal ones you get from the shops. Ultimately, this is still treat food or a dessert so there will be some indulgence.

And I also don’t believe you have to eat clean to be healthy. I believe in balance and eating yummy food.

Enjoy this recipe!

Chocolate Banana Bread

Prep time: 10 mins | Cooking time: 40 mins | Serves: 12

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda

  • ½ cup plain rolled oats

  • ¼ cup cacao powder

  • 2 large eggs (I use free range)

  • 2 medium, overripe bananas (1 cup mashed)

  • ½ cup plain Greek yoghurt

  • ¼ cup maple syrup

  • ¼ cup dried dates

  • ½ cup chocolate chips (optional)

  1. Preheat oven to 175c/350F.

  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, oats, cacao powder and baking soda. Stir until well combined.

  3. Place the dates in a food processor and blitz until tiny small pieces. Add a dash of water (about 2 teaspoons) if needed.

  4. Add bananas, Greek yoghurt and maple syrup to blender and blitz for 10 seconds or until combined.

  5. Lightly beat the eggs in a medium mixing bowl. Add the wet ingredients to the bowl.

  6. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and add the chocolate chips. Stir gently. Don’t over mix.

  7. Pour the batter into a lightly grease a 9” x 5” (23cm x 13cm) pan. Spread the mix evenly and bake for 35-40 minutes.

  8. Remove from oven. Cool for 10 minutes before placing onto a cooling rack.
