Healthy Chocolate Smoothie Recipe


Smoothies can be a really convenient and healthy way to sneak a whole lot of nutrition into busy mornings! This healthy chocolate smoothie recipe is delicious (I'm kinda obsessed) and I've even snuck in a serve of greens, so little ones or fussy eaters won't have a clue that this chocolate smoothie recipe is actually loaded with veg. 

The other great thing about this healthy smoothie is that it's really filling and will keep you full for a long time. You'll get plenty of protein from the milk and nut butter, slow-release carbs from the banana and date, plus, healthy fats from the nut butter. You see why I'm so obsessed? 

I also have ALL these ingredients at home at all times and (let's be honest), convenience is king!

  • Add the ice cubes afterwards if your blender isn't powerful enough. 
  • Want it thicker? Freeze milk in ice-cube trays. Perfect for smoothies. 
  • I always have frozen bananas on hand! Also great for banana ice-cream
  • This recipe is great without the cocoa as a green smoothie or without the spinach leaves as a truly chocolate smoothie. 
  • Use slightly more cacao (different from cocoa powder) to mask the spinach or use slightly less spinach to suit your taste.

Healthy Chocolate Smoothie Recipe
I use dairy milk but feel free to use a non-dairy milk if you want to make this paleo, vegan or lactose-free.
  • 1 cup milk of choice
  • 1 banana, frozen
  • 1 cup baby spinach leaves
  • 2 teaspoons nut butter
  • 1 date, medjool, pitted
  • 1 tablespoon cacao powder
  • 1/2 cup ice
1. Add all ingredients in a blender and blitz until smooth.
