Chocolate and hazelnut... two flavours that are meant for each other like macaroni and cheese!

I've got to be honest with you. I've loved Nutella my whole life, and never thought i'd find a healthier version of it. As a massive Nutella fan, I was so excited to taste this recipe.

This healthier version of a chocolate hazelnut spread is made by Melissa Eaton and only has 4 ingredients.

Nuts are a great source fibre and healthy fats, they make a great everyday snack but why not enjoy them sometimes with a little bit of chocolatey sweetness?

Enjoy this recipe smeared on a slice of grainy sourdough, stir through porridge or layer on top of a raw slice for an indulgent treat.

Healthy Chocolate Hazelnut Spread

Prep time: 5-10 mins | Cooking time: 5 mins | 15-20 serves


  • 1 cup raw or roasted hazelnuts
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¼ cup milk 
  • 3 tablespoons Honey


  1. Pre heat oven 180C/356F.
  2. If hazelnuts are raw, dry roast* hazelnuts in oven for 5–10 mins or until they are slightly brown (watch them as they are very easy to overcook). Allow to cool.
  3. Process roasted hazelnuts in a blender until they turn into a “nut butter” texture.
  4. Add the cocoa powder, milk and honey and blend until a smooth consistency.

*Dry roast is roasting without oil.
